Weekly Jobless Claims Drop Below 300,000
Published at | Updated at(WASHINGTON) — Jobless claims continued to drop going into September, plummeting to 292,000 during the first week of the month, the Labor Department reported on Thursday.
For the week ending Sept. 7, the number of people filing for benefits fell by 31,000. The previous week, claims stood at 323,000.
Bloomberg reports the significant drop was largely due to upgrades to computer systems in two states, which caused employment agencies there to report fewer applications.
The four-week average, meanwhile, also went down, decreasing by 7,500 to 321,250.
