Al-Shabab, the Somalia-based terror group claiming responsibility for the deadly attack last month on Kenya’s Westgate mall, said its statement that the Kenyan government’s decision to keep military forces in Somalia indicates they “haven’t yet learnt any valuable lessons” from the attacks on Westgate.  Until “the last KDF boots exit Somali soil,” al-Shabab claimed the group is “fully determined to intensify attacks” on Kenyan people.

Insisting they have the right to defend their land and their people from aggression and violence, al-Shabab said, “This will be a long, gruesome war and we will fight to the bitter end.”

Directly following the Westgate mall attack, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta described the terrorists as “craven wretches and lowly cowards,” and claimed that Kenyan defense forces had “ashamed and defeated our attackers.”
