“Captain Phillips,” “Machete Kills” Open Friday

Sony/Columbia(LOS ANGELES) — Here’s a look at the new movies opening nationwide Friday:

Captain Phillips — Tom Hanks plays the titular character, a commanding officer of a U.S. ship who is taken hostage by Somali pirates. The film, helmed by The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum director Paul Greengrass, is based on the true story of the hijacking of a U.S. ship by Somali pirates in 2009. Rated PG-13.
Machete Kills — Robert Rodriguez’s sequel to his 2010 action flick Machete again stars Danny Trejo as secret agent Machete Cortez. This time, he targets a terrorist — played by Mel Gibson — who aims to start a nuclear war. Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard and Lady Gaga also star. Rated R.
