GETTY 10713 DavidLetterman? SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1381140185698Ray Tamarra/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) — David Letterman is staying put on CBS’ Late Show for the next two years.  He and CBS have agreed to a contract extension that will keep him as host of Late Show through 2015.

Letterman, 66, jokes in a statement that he and CBS CEO Les Moonves had a “lengthy discussion, and we both agreed that I needed a little more time to fully run the show into the ground.”

Letterman’s contract had been set to expire in the fall of 2014.

Letterman is the longest-running late-night talk show host in TV history.  He’s hosted CBS’ Late Show for the past 20 years, after previously hosting NBC’s Late Night.

Letterman’s longtime late-night rival, Jay Leno, will say goodbye to NBC’s Tonight Show next February.  He will be replaced by Jimmy Fallon, who will hand over Late Night to Seth Meyers.
