Variety reports that at an event Wednesday night, Glee creator Ryan Murphy said the show will end after its sixth season. The show is currently in its fifth.  He also said that he’s been forced to come up with a different series finale than he had planned.

“The final year of the show, which will be next year, was designed around Rachel and Cory/Finn’s story. I always knew that, I always knew how it would end,” Variety quotes Murphy as saying, referring to Lea Michele’s character Rachel and Monteith’s character, Finn, who were lovers on the show.

“I knew what the last shot was; he was in it. I knew what the last line was; she said it to him,” Murphy continued. “So when a tragedy like that happens you sort of have to pause and figure out what you want to do, so we’re figuring that out now.”

Last week’s episode, “The Quarterback,” paid tribute to Monteith’s Finn, who died off-screen of causes that were not revealed.
