After starting the season 0-2, the Panthers have proceeded to win four out of their next five games and are above .500 for the first time in five years.

Quarterback Cam Newton has played very well since the team’s started to turn things around. Against Tampa Bay, Newton completed 23 of 32 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns. He also led the team in rushing with 50 yards on the ground, including a touchdown.

“I just feel as if my production is off a lot of other people’s production,” Newton said after the game. “If you solely want to say I’m playing great, it also means a lot of other guys are playing great behind the scenes. This is not a one-man show. I understand that, and I will not have that type of attitude.”

Meanwhile, as efficient as the Panthers offense has been, their defense came to play again against the Buccaneers. They allowed Tampa Bay to gain just 297 yards on offense, and didn’t score a touchdown until there was only 2:53 left in the fourth quarter.

Dating back to last year, the Buccaneers have lost 12 of their past 13 games.
