Red Sox Win World Series
(BOSTON) — The Boston Red Sox won the World Series Wednesday night with a 6-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 6 of the Fall Classic.
It was a dramatic turnaround for a team that finished in last place in the AL East in 2012 under manager Bobby Valentine.
Valentine was fired after the rough season and the Red Sox brought in former Blue Jays manager John Farrell to turn things around.
For the BoSox, it’s their eighth championship in franchise history, and third since 2004.
Boston finished the regular season with the American League’s best record at 97-65. In the post-season, they defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in the divisional series in four games and took care of the Detroit Tigers in the American League Championship in six games.
It was the first time that both teams with the best record in each league met in the Fall Classic since 1999 when the New York Yankees swept the Atlanta Braves.
This is the first time that the Red Sox have clinched a World Series title at home since 1918.
