Trains will continue rolling at least until Sunday, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. Unions and BART officials reported making progress in talks on Thursday, but no new contract had yet been reached. If no deal is agreed upon by then, a strike will begin on Monday.

Despite a 60-day cooling off period instituted by Gov. Jerry Brown in August, the two sides have yet to agree to a deal.

If the union workers do strike, the Chronicle reports that the BART Board of Directors authorized the agency to spend as much as $400,000 per day to offer trans-bay charter bus service.

Union workers went on strike for four-and-a-half days over the summer, causing gridlock throughout the Bay Area.
