Of the 16.1 million viewers, 10.4 million were adults between the ages of 18 and 49. That figure ranks higher than any other show in primetime on broadcast or cable television this season.

The Walking Dead’s third-season premiere, on Oct. 14, 2012, had a viewership of 10.9 million people, 7.3 million of which fell in the key 18- to 49-year old demographic.

The previous record viewership for an episode of The Walking Dead was set during the season three finale, on March 31, when 12.4 million people watched.

Notably, Sunday’s premiere also topped the figures attained by the recent and highly-anticipated season finale of Breaking Bad, which saw “just” 10.3 million viewers and 6.7 between the ages of 18 and 49.
