(NEW YORK) — Valerie Harper reveals in the debut issue of Closer magazine that after being diagnosed with a rare cancer of the brain lining in January of this year and given just three to six months to live, the former Dancing with the Stars contestant just aced her third and latest brain scan.
Harper, 74, tells the magazine her doctor told her, “At the rate we are going you don’t have to worry…you will see Christmas.”
Just seven days after being eliminated from Dancing with the Stars, Harper tells Closer she had to face “D-Day,” her term for the brain scan appointment that would determine how far the cancer had progressed.
The former Mary Tyler Moore Show and Rhoda actress tells the magazine she is “signing up for life” and she “believes in miracles.” Still, Harper realizes her situation can “turn on a dime.”
Harper has been married to filmmaker Tony Cacciotti for 26 years. They have an adopted daughter.
