The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported on Friday that the death toll from Typhoon Haiyan has shot up to 5,209. Another 23,404 have been injured and 1,611 people are still missing.
Since Haiyan hit on Nov. 8, more than 4.3 million people have been displaced, according to the council, with many of them still left searching for food and water as power outages and supply shortages persist.
In all, more than one million homes have been damaged by the storm so far, with close to half of them being completely destroyed.
