Dungy, Harrison, linebacker Derrick Brooks, and tackle Walter Jones were the four first-year eligible candidates to make the cut from 126 to 25.

Other former players who are being considered for induction to the Hall of Fame include running back Jerome Bettis, safety John Lynch, and defensive end Michael Strahan.

The list of 25 semifinalists will be reduced to 15 modern-era finalists.  They will be joined by two recommended candidates from hall’s seniors committee.  There is no set numbers of enshrinees for any Hall of Fame class, but anywhere between four and seven new members are selected each year.

The Hall of Fame election will be held on Feb. 1, the night before the Super Bowl, in New York.
