Sen. Chuck Schumer Urges Hillary Clinton to Run in 2016
Published at(DES MOINES, Iowa) — In a speech on Saturday night, Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., endorsed Hillary Clinton, urging her to run for president in 2016.
Clinton has said that she is not in a rush to decide whether she will campaign for the presidency in 2016. The Washington Post reports that she will likely not make a decision until next year. Clinton was, herself, a New York senator prior to her time as President Obama’s Secretary of State. In 2008, when she was the junior Senator from New York and Schumer the senior Senator, Schumer endorsed her presidential campaign.
“Hillary’s experience is unrivaled and her vision is unparalleled,” Schumer said on Saturday. Schumer acknowledged that in 2008, “the time was right for Barack Obama,” but that “2016 is Hillary’s time.”
Schumer’s speech came after a week in which a new book recounts how some advisers to President Obama considered replacing Vice President Joe Biden with Clinton on the 2012 ticket.
