Connor Shaw threw a touchdown pass and ran for another as the No. 11 Gamecocks steamrolled Coastal Carolina 70-10 on Saturday.

The Gamecocks (9-2) scored their most points ever in Steve Spurrier’s nine seasons as head coach.  They scored touchdowns on their first six possessions of the game and were able to rest several starters in advance of next week’s clash with Clemson.

Shaw improved to 25-5 as a starter and the Gamecocks won their record 17th-straight game at home.

“Obviously, this is pretty special to me and just the way we did it, too,” Shaw said. “The whole offense played well.”

Coastal Carolina (10-2) managed just 39 yards in the first quarter and found themselves trailing 28-0 early.  Alex Ross passed for 168 yards and one touchdown in the loss.
