Stocks Climb Higher
Published at | Updated at(NEW YORK) — The markets reached new benchmarks heading into Thanksgiving.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 25 points at a new all-time high of 16,097. The Nasdaq Composite touched a 13-year high and closed up 27 points at 4044.75. The S&P 500 rose 4 points to a record high of 1,807.23.
The markets will be closed Thursday, and will open Friday for a half-day session.
The Labor Department says first time unemployment claims dropped by 10,000 last week. Economists say that’s a sign workers are in less danger of being laid off.
The price of crude oil dropped almost $1.50 to just over $92 a barrel, the lowest price for crude since June.
