The One Thing Bethenny Frankel Won’t Say Around Her Daughter

NCP/Star Max/FilmMagic(NEW YORK) — Bethenny Frankel believes in leading by example when raising her daughter Bryn – especially when it involves food.
Bryn will be 4-years-old in May and, Frankel told ABC News, you have to have “an energy at home with your children where you don’t talk about weight and you don’t talk about dieting or anything like that.”
In 2011, Frankel told US Weekly,”I spent my entire life being obsessed with dieting. Forbidding everything,” and now Frankel says it’s that kind of approach she doesn’t want for her daughter.
The talk show host and former reality star, 42, takes pride in starting a dialogue when it comes to serious topics.
“If you start giving your kids anxiety about food, it’s going to last a lifetime,” she said. “Moms have to lead by example. Don’t say, ‘Oh, my jeans don’t fit,’ or ‘Oh, I was bad.’ No diets, nothing like that.”
With her drink empire SkinnyGirl, Frankel says the brand is all about indulging the smart way, so her philosophy about parenting makes sense. Frankel spoke to ABC on Thursday as part of a New York City event where she launched a new line of SkinnyGirl wines.
“Women do like to drink cocktails, but there’s an occasion for wine, sometimes women don’t want to have a hard liquor drink,” she said of the new selection, including Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. “Wine can be its own kind of experience.”
Frankel’s “everything in moderation” approach to business, health, and her personal life all come together, as she admits she also doesn’t like to overdo it when it comes to gifts for her daughter.
“I am not a person who believes in overstimulating your kids with a lot of toys,” she added. “I think presents should be special.”
The one thing she does splurge on is time with her little girl. “I’m always with Bryn as much as I possibly can be,” she said. “She has a personality … I do see a lot of myself in her, other people see a lot of me in her too. She’s very sassy, she’s smart and she has a good sense of humor and she’s fun.”
Frankel and her husband Jason Hoppy separated in December and filed for divorce in January.
