But now, the team plans to move him over to first base full-time in 2014.

The 30-year-old Mauer missed the final six weeks of the 2013 season dealing with a concussion after he took a foul tip off his mask.

Mauer is still owed another $115 million by the team through the 2018 season, so they want to take all the steps needed to keeping him on the field.

A Minnesota native, Mauer won the Silver Slugger Award for catchers in the American League this past season after batted .324 with 11 home runs and 47 RBIs in 113 games played.

Mauer has played 56 games at first base during his career.
