US Stocks Mixed at Closing Bell

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 70 points to complete the trading session at 15,615.55. The Nasdaq Composite went into positive territory the last hour of trading, rising two points to 3,922.04. The S&P 500 added five points to close at 1,761.64.
It was the first day of trading for The Container Store. Shares of the retailer that specializes in organization products doubled early on, jumping from just over $18 to more than $36, well above the projected range price of $14 to $16 a share in its New York Stock Exchange debut.
The markets got a boost from an Institute for Supply Management report that shows manufacturing activity picked up in September.
Federal regulators are looking into Citigroup’s trading activity on foreign markets. The company said so in a quarterly statement. JP Morgan Chase, Barclays and UBS are also targets of investigations.
