Georgetown head coach John Thompson III issued the news before the Hoyas’ win over Lipscomb Saturday giving no reason as to why Whittington was dismissed.

The 6-foot-8 Whittington hasn’t played in a game for the Hoyas since Jan. 8, after which the team suspended him for academic deficiencies.

Whittington proceeded to tear his ACL in the summerand it was unclear if he would return this season.

In the 13 games Whittington played last season he averaged 12.1 points, seven rebounds, two assists and 1.3 steals per game.
