California Holding Up Sriracha Hot Sauce Shipments
Published at | Updated at(LOS ANGELES) — Another blow to a popular hot sauce company outside of Los Angeles could mean it will be harder to find.
Sriracha — known in some places as “rooster sauce” for the rooster on the bottle — says it can’t ship anymore of its hot red sauce until next month because California’s Department of Public Health is enforcing strict guidelines requiring the sauce be held for 35 days before it’s shipped.
It comes after a court ruled certain aspects of Sriracha production must stop because of complaints from neighbors of eye burning and odors from the peppers.
