Coast Guard Officer from Idaho Falls, Dies

(SEATTLE, WA)  —  A Coast Guard officer from Idaho Falls, has died from injuries sustained while rescuing crew members from a fishing vessel off the coast of Alaska last month.   Petty Officer Third Class Travis Raymond Obendorf passed away last Wednesday after a month’s stay at a Seattle hospital.   He was part of the crew that responded to the 166-foot Alaska Mist when it suffered mechanical failure and went adrift north of Amak Island off the Alaskan Peninsula.  Obendorf was injured November 11 during the first passenger transfer while attempting to recover a small boat from the Alaska Mist.   Obendorf’s remains arrived at the Idaho Falls Regional Airport Monday.  He was a graduate of Idaho Falls High School.  No word yet on funeral arrangements.
