(BOISE, ID) – A former Idaho Falls man on death row for the 1988 murder of a Boise woman will not get a new trial. Justices with the Idaho Supreme Court say 55-year-old Zane Fields didn’t meet deadlines for his sixth appeal and had insufficient evidence to warrant another round in court. Fields admitted to another prisoner that he’d murdered 69-year-old Mary Vanderford while serving time for an unrelated charge. He was later convicted of Vanderford’s murder in 1990. Fields claims the other prisoner lied about his confession.
