Failed Promotion Leaves McDonald’s with 10 Million Pounds of Wings

McDonald’s(NEW YORK) — McDonald’s is sitting on about 10 million pounds of unsold chicken wings after a promotion in the fall went awry, reports the Wall Street Journal.
A person familiar with the matter tells the newspaper that the fast food chain bought approximately 50 million pounds of chicken wings intended to be sold during the limited-time promotion but the company failed to move about 20 percent of the inventory. That surplus is now sitting in frozen storage.
McDonald’s is hoping to rid itself of the extra food in a new promotion, which will market the wings at a discounted price, the person says. Previously, three wings went for $2.99.
