The cub has been named ‘Bao Bao’, which the zoo says is a Mandarin Chinese name meaning precious or treasure.

The name was announced at a ceremony that celebrated the cub’s first 100 days of life. Mei Xiang gave birth to Bao Bao on Aug. 23.

The zoo says Bao Bao was one of five Mandarin Chinese names offered as options in a public poll. Over 100,000 people cast their votes to help choose the cub’s name.
