(SALMON, ID) – A wolf hunting competition in Salmon over the weekend resulted in no wolves being taken, but hunters managed to bag 21 coyotes in the process. Officials with Idaho for Wildlife organized the derby, which infuriated environmental activists who unsuccessfully sought legal action to ban the event. More than 230 hunters participated in the derby. Organizer Steve Adler says the low tally shows that sport hunting isn’t enough to manage wolf populations in the Gem State.
