“Everyone should understand, the Senate will not wait until the New Year to consider these nominations,” Reid said on the Senate floor Thursday.

Reid has filed cloture on ten nominees he wants to see confirmed before the holiday recess.  Prominent nominees in the group include Janet Yellen for the next chair of the Federal Reserve and John Koskinen, for the Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service.

Republicans are willing to stall the process on the pending nominees as procedural payback for Democrats’ use of the so-called “nuclear option” to change filibuster rules on most of the president’s nominees.

Democrats are able to yield back their half of time on all nominees, with the exception of Yellen. Yellen’s nomination would require consent from both sides to yield back any of the 30 post-cloture hours.
