Tom Hanks, Dick Van Dyke Attend “Saving Mr. Banks” Hollywood Premiere

121013 SavingMrBanks gallery 02?  SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1386670309964Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures(LOS ANGELES) — Hollywood stars from past and present turned out Monday night for the premiere of Saving Mr. Banks on the Disney lot in Los Angeles.

The film tells the untold story of how Walt Disney landed the rights to Mary Poppins, a book series that inspired the classic 1964 movie  Tom Hanks portrays Disney and Emma Thompson stars as Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers.

Dick Van Dyke starred in the 1964 movie and attended Monday night’s premiere.  He told ABC News Radio he loved doing the song and dance numbers in the movie, but the scene where he and others had to dance on the rooftops was hard work.

“That was killer.  We were out there dancing and all those guys were half my age. It was so hard,” Van Dyke recalled.

Hanks recalled seeing Mary Poppins as a kid and remembered thinking the kids in the movie “talked funny.” 

“I couldn’t figure out what they were saying,” Hanks added.

Saving Mr. Banks opens nationwide on Dec. 20.
