Tony Romo Undergoes Back Surgery, Out For Season
Published at(IRVING, Texas) — Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo underwent back surgery on Friday morning and will miss the remainder of the season.
Romo suffered a herniated disc in his back during last week’s win over the Washington Redskins. He received treatment from the team all week, including an epidural, but nothing helped as the Cowboys placed him on injured reserve.
Kyle Orton will start on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. The winner of that game will take home the NFC East title. Jon Kitna was brought in as insurance.
“This was the right decision for him, and this is the right decision for our organization,” Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said of Romo. “He started his road to recovery, and he’ll be back sooner rather than later.”
Romo finishes the season having thrown for 3,828 yards and 31 touchdowns.
