Published at(LOS ANGELES) — Arizona point guard T.J. McConnell had 19 points, four rebounds, and six assists to help the top-ranked Wildcats slam USC 73-53 Sunday.
Arizona improves to 17-0, its best start to a season ever.
“We’re really excited about it, we really are,” Arizona coach Sean Miller said. “We talked about it and it’s something I think all of us will really cherish. Any school record you break at Arizona in the basketball program is a real record because of the great tradition that we have.”
USC (9-7, 0-3 Pac 12), kept the game tight most of the night trailing by just five with nine minutes to play, but then Zona went on an 18-6 run from which the Trojans never recovered.
Brandon Ashley had 19 points and guard Nick Johnson added 15 points and five steals for the Wildcats, who finish a two-game road sweep of Los Angeles’ teams.
Arizona will look to build on its perfect start Thursday, when Arizona State (13-4) visits the McKale Center.
