ACLU Suing Utah Over Gay Marriage

(SALT LAKE CITY, UT) – The American Civil Liberties Union is suing the state of Utah over the issue of gay marriage. Following a federal court ruling last month that temporarily granted marriage rights to same-sex couples living in Utah, the state petitioned for a review by the U.S. Supreme Court, which was granted Jan. 6. Until the review is complete, Gov. Gary Herbert is asking state agencies to hold off recognizing gay marriages. ACLU officials say the marriages are valid, regardless of how the Supreme Court rules.
