Ahead of Olympics, Russia Bans Liquids from Carry-On Luggage
Published at(MOSCOW) — If you’re heading to the Olympics, make sure to check your liquids and gels before you board the plane.
Russia has announced that all liquids will be banned from carry-on luggage aboard Russian flights.
Earlier in the week two of Moscow’s three airports announced a ban on liquids for flights bound to Sochi, but the restriction now covers all flights.
Exceptions will be made for baby food and medicines with a prescription, but in both cases security staff will test them first. Similarly, small personal care items like toothpaste may be allowed.
“The threat of a terror attack on aircraft with the use of home-produced explosives remains,” the Federal Air Transport Agency said in a statement, adding, “We are seeing increased activity on the part of terrorists, especially the events of late 2013.”
The statement did not say whether the measures were temporary, just for the Olympics, or permanent.
