An Air Force spokesman confirmed that a U.S. Air Force HH-60 helicopter, called a Pave Hawk, crashed Tuesday during a low-level training mission.  The aircraft had been based at RAF Lakenheath, a British base that is home to about 1,000 U.S. service personnel, near Norfolk, about 70 miles from London.

Norfolk Police said the aircraft went down over a wildlife reserve area known as the Salthouse Marshes. They believe live ammunition was on board the crashed U.S. helicopter, which has prompted a 500-yard exclusion area to be imposed for the next 24 hours. The ammunition needs to be made safe before any recovery can begin, police said.
