On Sunday, at a gathering for his company’s 40th anniversary, Terry Gou told reporters that Hon Hai, also known as Foxconn, may be planning to relocate some of its high-tech manufacturing to the U.S. — the iPhone and iPad maker’s largest market.

Gou said software and technology innovation would be Foxconn’s key focus in the U.S. in the next few years.  The company has been searching for new channels for growth now that contract manufacturing is slowing, the Wall Street Journal reports. Foxconn has even turned to retail, selling its own mobile accessories.

Additionally, the Journal reports the company said in November that it is exploring a $40 million investment in research and manufacturing in Pennsylvania.
