More Farm Bill Payments for Rural Idaho Counties

(WASHINGTON, DC) – The farm bill being debated in Congress includes a one-year extension on a program that compensates rural counties for federal lands that can’t be taxed. Many rural counties in the Gem State rely on the Payment in Lieu of Taxes program to fund basic emergency services conducted by law enforcement officers, firefighters, and paramedics. Nearly $400 million was distributed through the program last year, most of which went to states in the Intermountain West.
