South Carolina State University Shooting Suspect Arrested

Justin Bernard Singleton, 19, was taken into custody on Saturday morning and charged with murder. According to the police report, Singleton shot a South Carolina State University student in the neck in a campus building. The victim was identified as 20-year-old Brandon Robinson a football player at SCSU. Robinson was taken to Orangeburg Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

South Carolina State University Campus Police Chief Mernard Clarkson said on Friday that authorities were searching for four suspects who left campus after the shooting.

An alert was sent to students about one hour after the shooting at which point Clarkson said the campus was placed on lockdown.

The 3,200-student historically black college is located in Orangeburg, about 40 miles south of Columbia, S.C.

The school announced on Saturday that grief counseling was available to all students.
