Wisconsin Governor Accidentally Praises Sex Offender

GETTY 12414 ScottWalker?  SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1390556201524Andy Wong-Pool/Getty Images(MADISON, Wis.) — Aides to Wisconsin Republican Gov. Scott Walker are now saying it was mistake to have invited welder Christopher Barber to Wednesday’s state of the state address.

In the governor’s speech, Barber was pointed out as someone who represents “the improving economy” in Wisconsin by making seasonal work a full-time job.

However, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel described Barber as a registered sex-offender with two felony convictions and three drunk-driving arrests.

Barber’s boss at Ariens Co., who recommended him for the invite to Walker’s address, said he wasn’t aware of his worker’s past criminal behavior.

A spokesman for the governor admitted, “If we had been aware of this individual’s prior convictions, he would not have been invited to participate.”
