According to a statement from Cathay Pacific, the flight left San Francisco at 11:48 a.m. Pacific Time on Monday carrying 321 passengers and 21 crew members. The plane was due in to Hong Kong at 6:26 p.m. local time on Tuesday, but that afternoon, faced severe turbulence near Hokkaido, Japan.

Two crew members and seven passengers were injured. The plane landed on time at Hong Kong International airport, the airline says, where all nine injured individuals received medical attention. Both crew members and six of the passengers were taken to hospitals, while one injured passenger suffered only minor injuries and was released.

The Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department was informed of the incident and opened an investigation on Tuesday.
