The Walt Disney Studios announced the service and app — called Disney Movies Anywhere — in a statement Tuesday morning.

Through iPhones, iPads, iPod touches and the web, users will be able to buy, manage and watch movies from Disney, Pixar and Marvel from wherever they are. The premier digital movie provider for the service is iTunes, according to the statement.

Disney Movies Anywhere — or DMA — features the company’s library of more than 400 titles.

Disney’s hit film, Frozen, had its digital release on Tuesday, the company also said.

Disney announced that any user who activated the DMA account and connected it to his or her iTunes accounts would, for a limited time, get a free digital copy of its animated classic, The Incredibles.

DMA also works as a streaming movie service when users log in to the website on their desktops or Mac or PC laptops.

Jamie Voris, chief technology officer of The Walt Disney Studios, said the technology enabled the company “to work with iTunes and future provider partners to ensure movie lovers have streamlined access to all of their favorite Disney titles no matter which device they are on.”

Viewers who already received digital movie titles when they unlocked the codes from select Disney, Pixar and Marvel DVD and Blu-ray titles can use those same codes to activate their films in the new service. And from now on, users can also earn points from their digital purchases in the new service.

The Disney Movies Anywhere App is available for free from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch or at www.AppStore.com/Disney.
