Drivers Can Expect Gas Prices to Increase

iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — Analysts say drivers may see the price of unleaded gasoline go up soon. For months gas prices have been unusually stable — going up and down only a few pennies each week. But analyst Tom Kloza at Gas Buddy says it appears a spike of as much as 40 cents a gallon in some areas is coming.
Because of increased demand, the coming transition to summer gas blends, and that “refineries go down for maintenance in February and March and a little bit in April,” Kloza says it is typical for prices to rise.
The worst areas for climbing gas prices are expected to be the most heavily populated: the Northeast and the West Coast.
