Dutch Sweep Women’s 1,500 Meters

Getty Netherlands Speedskating?  SQUARESPACE CACHEVERSION=1392624049526JUNG YEON-JE/AFP/Getty Images(SOCHI, Russia) — The Netherlands is destroying the competition on the speedskating oval at the Sochi Winter Olympics.

The Dutch finished with the four fastest times in the Women’s 1,500 meters Sunday giving them 16 speedskating medals this Olympics with four events to go. The three medals breaks East Germany’s record of 13 speedskating medals won at the 1988 Calgary Olympics.

Jorien ter Mors led the way with a time of 1 minute, 53.51 seconds, breaking an Olympic record. Ter Mors will now get a chance to become the first skater to ever win medals in both long and short track races.

Ireen Wust grabs the silver with a time of 1:54.09, while Lotte van Beek takes the bronze.

The Netherlands were so dominant that Marit Leenstra came in fourth.

It’s the third sweep of the medal podium at the Sochi Games for the Netherlands.

American Heather Richardson finished seventh.
