Barry Bonds, baseball’s all-time home run leader who never officially retired is returning to the Giants as a spring training instructor.  He is expected to arrive during the second week of March.

The 49-year-old Bonds spent his last 15 seasons with the Giants, finishing in 2007.  He set major league records with 762 career home runs and 73 in 2001.  He has not been elected to the Hall of Fame due to the fact that many voters believe his career numbers were boosted by performance-enhancing drugs.

Former Giants players Jeff Kent, Will Clark, Robb Nen, and J.T. Snow will also be in camp.  Manager Bruce Bochy believes havng Bonds around will help out the hitters on the team.

“He’s part of what we’ll do here,” Bochy said. “He’s going to be part of the group of instructors, like Clark, Snow or Kent. He’s going to be like the other guys and help where he can.”
