The three-time All Star and 2008 World Series MVP is dealing with biceps tendinitis and will start the season on the disabled list. Despite the news, Hamels isn’t worried the injury will keep him out very long.

“I see myself pitching in April,” Hamels said. “It’s not any pain or discomfort. It’s just the building up of muscles. When you start, you can’t run a marathon right off the bat. You have to build up to it.

“Not too far behind [Opening Day] I’ll be ready.”

The 30-year-old Hamels said he started feeling discomfort near Thanksgiving. That led him to push his offseason throwing program back from Dec. 1 to Jan. 1.

Hamels threw 220 innings last season compiling an 8-14 record, 3.60 ERA, 1.159 WHIP and 202 strikeouts.
