Folk was set to become an unrestricted free agent starting in the new league year on March 11, but Gang Green has locked him down for at least one more season.

The estimated salary for franchise tagged kickers is $3.4 million for next season, a hefty increase over the $780,000 Folk made in 2013.

Even though the franchise tag is only a one-year deal, the Jets and Folk are allowed to work out a long-term deal even after placing the tag on him.  He has been with the Jets since 2010 on a series of one-year contracts.

The Jets are coming off an 8-8 season, and a few of those wins were because of Folk.  He converted 33 of 36 field goal attempts in 2013, including game-winners against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons, and New England Patriots.
