(NEW YORK) — The Detroit Lions released veteran wide receiver Nate Burleson on Thursday.
The 32-year-old Burleson made 39 catches for 461 yards and a touchdown last season. He missed seven games because of a broken left forearm.
Burleson was set to make $7,531,645 in 2014 and cost the Lions close to $5.5 million toward the salary cap. He was willing to restructure his deal but the Lions didn’t bite.
The six-foot, 198-pound Burleson played his last four seasons in Detroit. During that time he caught 194 balls for 2,083 yards and 12 touchdowns.
“The last 4 years in Michigan been incredible!,” Burleson tweeted. “MY TEAM, FANS & the CITY will missed more than you know! Thank You! Love Detroit!”
