Her time of 2:36.87 seconds narrowly beat Austria’s Anna Fenninger by .07 seconds.

Fenninger was also looking for her second goal medal in Sochi but ultimately took the silver. The Austrian was crowned champion in the Super G last week. Germany’s Viktoria Rebbensburg won the bronze medal in the event with a time of 2:37.14 seconds.

Mikaela Shiffrin was the top American in the event, placing fifth. Julia Mancuso, the bronze medal winner in the Super Combined, did not finish after falling off the course in her first run.

Maze’s gold is also the second for Slovenia in the Winter Olympics.
