While these kinds of incidents are rare in the country, it fuels more worries among Russians already concerned about the possibility of violence occurring at the Sochi Winter Olympics beginning later this week.

According to witnesses, the 15-year-old suspect, later identified as Sergei Gordeyev, was carrying a shotgun when he entered the geography class of his Moscow school.

Gordeyev then allegedly shot his teacher, Andrei Kirillov, and fired again when he saw his victim was still breathing.

At that point, students reported that the suspect said, “I don’t want to kill any of you. I am afraid of death so much I wanted to see what it looks like.”

When two police officers tried to rush inside the classroom, Gordeyev allegedly shot one to death while seriously wounding the other cop.

School officials said they managed to contact Gordeyev’s father, who first talked to his son by phone and then showed up in person to convince his son not to harm anyone else.

The alleged shooter than agreed to let students leave the classroom one-by-one. After the last one had left, a special police unit forced itself inside the classroom and took Gordeyev into custody.

Gordeyev is undergoing a psychological exam and was said to have had no conflicts with anyone at his school. Charges are pending.
