(WASHINGTON, DC) – U.S. Rep. Mike Simpson is speaking out in support of a federal measure aimed at curbing the ability of the IRS to target political groups. Simpson maintains that the IRS has unfairly scrutinized conservative non-profit organizations, and that the IRS Act of 2014 violates the rights of Americans to freely express their opinions without government scrutiny. The change proposed by the Obama Administration would strip many 501(c)4 organizations of their tax-exempt status, though it would not impact labor unions or charitable organizations.
