(IDAHO FALLS, ID) – Boating accidents are a common occurrence in eastern Idaho during the summer, and a state senator is calling for stiffer penalties for those caught operating boats unsafely. Republican Sen. Shawn Keough of Sandpoint wants misdemeanor charges as an option for people caught engaging in “grossly negligent” activities on the water. Last summer a drunk boater from Idaho Falls ran aground along the South Fork of the Snake River, killing a Rigby woman. Keough says fatal accidents happen often enough that the law needs to be updated.
