Stocks Close with Mixed Results

iStock/Thinkstock(NEW YORK) — The market closed mixed Tuesday as investors took in the latest corporate earnings figures.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 24 points to 16,130.40. The Nasdaq Composite rose 29 points to 4,272.78. The S&P 500 closed up 2 points at 1,840.76.
Coca-Cola’s fourth-quarter earnings were a little flat, analysts say, partly because Americans are drinking less soda. North American soda sales were down 3 percent, but sales of non-carbonated drinks like Powerade and Vitamin Water rose 4 percent.
The National Association of Homebuilders/Wells Fargo builder sentiment index slid to 46 percent this month. The report said severe weather may keep a lot of would-be homebuyers away. A rating below 50 is considered poor.
