The IOC approved the switch less than an hour before the men’s 1500 meters.

“For the remainder of the Winter Olympic Games, Team USA speedskaters will be wearing the previously-approved Under Armour skin suits used during recent World Cup competition,” President of US Speedskating Mike Plant said in a news release.

The new Olympic speedskating suits were unvieled last month and hadn’t been tested until now.

Orginally there was much hype surrounding the suits, but after the Americans failed to make the podium despite boasting the world’s top-ranked skaters, Heather Richardson and Shani Davis, so it was decided a change would be best.

The International Skating Union says all members of a team must were the same suit, so the new Mach 39 suits are shelved and the old suits are coming back.

The Americans will get their first chance to see if the change in clothes helps when they take the ice on Saturday.
